The ACGC wrestling team will open their dual schedule tonight at the West Central Valley quadrangular. The field includes athletes from the host Wildcats, Chargers, East Union, and Nodaway Valley. Individually, the field features three IAwrestle ranked grapplers: ACGC’s Seth Danker (113 #9), WCV’s Carson Wadle (195 #7) and East Union’s Sherman Hayes (138 #8).
ACGC head coach Shawn Danker gives his impressions on the other three schools competing in tonight’s quadrangular. “West Central is going to have good numbers. They’re usually pretty solid. East Union’s got some quality kids. So you have to be wrestling well. They’re usually pretty strong, pretty physical. Nodaway Valley has got some good wrestling background. They have some good skill positions there.”
Danker says the most important thing for the team is just to focus on being their best individually and letting that dictate their performance on the mats. ACGC won four of their first five duals last season, before dropping 15 of the last 23. That was largely due to some key weight classes being left open, something which should not be as much of a factor this season as numbers are up across the board. The duals begin at the West Central Valley High School gymnasium at 5:30pm in Stuart.
