South Hamilton has won the last two boys’ basketball titles in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and the Hawks have also advanced to the Class 2A State Tournament both of those seasons. A number of SH players return from one or both of those teams. Greene County would like to unseat the Hawks at the top of the league, and if that happens in 2018-19, a victory in Jewell by the Rams tomorrow night would be a big step in the right direction. The Hawks are 1-0 and the Rams 2-0 and Friday nights’ contest is the first HOIAC game for both teams.
Greene County head coach Chris Nelson was asked to give his view on the contest. “I think it will be a pretty good game. Both teams are well-matched. South Hamilton has two very good guards, two of the better players in our conference, and I feel like we have two pretty good guards and two of the better players in the conference in our only two seniors in Trey Hinote and Lance Hughes. I think what it might come down to is the other three guys in the starting lineups for both teams, as well as bench play.”
The girl/boy doubleheader will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow.
