
The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
Following a public hearing, the Council approved an amendment to the City’s Urban Renewal Plan. The amendment was to include incentives of up to $150,000 on any buildings in the entire Urban Renewal Plan. The Council then approved an economic development agreement with Sky Blue Properties (Don’s Ace Hardware) to redevelop the former Shopko Hometown building at 1004 North Elm Street. The agreement will allow up to $75,000 over a ten-year forgivable loan.
The Council also approved a letter of support for a grant application through Region XII Council of Governments for the Iowa Finance Authority Down Payment Assistance Program. It will allow for a maximum of five homes of qualified individuals or families that are 80-percent of the federal poverty guidelines for first-time home buyers, to veterans to displaced homemakers. The Council additionally approved a maximum match of $22,500 toward the grant application.
Additionally, the Council approved the Jefferson Matters: Main Tower View Team’s request to place four Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower replicas at the alleyway entrances around the downtown square. The meeting ended with a quarterly update from JMMS.
