It’s week two of practice for the Greene County High School boys’ basketball team. Head Coach Chris Nelson saw his Rams win their Iowa Hall of Pride Scrimmage on Saturday night vs. Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) in the middle school gym in Jefferson. It was played under game-like conditions, but does not count in the season record. The Rams won 89-64 and in the process they made 15-three point goals. Seniors Trey Hinote and Lance Hughes scored 35 and 33 points, respectively.
The coach talked about the Hall of Pride Scrimmage. “Our kids came out and did exactly what we wanted them to do. We wanted to push the ball and really run. I was also pretty pleased defensively. We had a few stretches where we need to communicate and move our feet a little better, but overall, I thought we did a pretty good job after just one week of practice.”
The coach talked about the three-pointers, saying, “If we make 15 three’s every night I like our chances. We know that won’t be the case every night, so we really need to lock up on “D.”
Greene County hosts Ogden in the middle school gym in Jefferson on Monday, Nov. 26 to officially begin the 2018-19 season. It’s a girl/boy doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
