Greene County High School Wrestling Media Day is tonight inside The Edge on South Chestnut Street in Jefferson. The Rams’ practice facility has seen more wrestlers on the high school team than in some time as first year head coach Zach Beekman and assistant Kirk Davis attempt to return the program to prominence. Increased numbers are a good place to start. For last week’s first week of official practice, numbers were in the middle 30s, quite a jumper from the low 20s of last season.
The wrestlers and coaches will be talking about the upcoming 2018-19 season during Media Day. Coach Beekman moves up from the middle school program and Coach Davis has a long history of coaching high school wrestling, most notably as the former Coon Rapids-Bayard head coach.
Last season was the first since 1988-89 Greene County had no State Tournament qualifiers. The coaches and wrestlers are hoping to change that this season.
