Perry School Board 11-12

The Perry School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with several reports, starting with teachers Laura Skeel and T.J. Maylum from the special education department talking about their work with the Community Work Experience program. That was followed by reports on the recent Professional Learning Community National Institute Conference from the three building principals and Kevin Viderger, Director of Teaching and Learning. Lastly, Superintendent Clark Wicks mentioned that served enrollment is up this year.

In general business, the Board approved a service agreement with Medical Enterprises for drug and alcohol testing of the District’s bus drivers, in accordance with Department of Transportation requirements. Next they approved an application to the School Budget Review Committee for modified allowable growth, which would increase the District’s spending authority for increasing enrollment, open enrollment out, and limited English proficient programs by $555,538.88.

Other items approved included: a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Human Services for foster care; an agreement for student teaching and practicum with Iowa State University; changes to Board policies; six early graduation requests; a resolution voting in favor of the expansion of the Raccoon River Conference from eight schools to ten; and allowing the special education department up to $500 to purchase uniforms for students to be used in the Community Work Experience program.

Finally, the Board decided to hire UNESCO as the construction managers for the industrial technology and wrestling room project. The agreement means they’ll be parting ways with current architects SVPA, though the timetable is still to have a bond referendum vote in February.
