The Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday.

The proceedings began with a joint meeting of the City Council and Utility Board to discuss extending water lines on the north side of town. The Council and the Board directed City Engineer Forrest Aldrich to look into the cost of such venture. Next, the Council heard from resident Bob Agan who requested a hearing about a citation received on a public nuisance code violation for his property at 515 South Harrison. Council member Michael Askren mentioned this is not the first time Agan has received a code violation citation, and the Council took no action regarding the issue.

The Council then approved appointing Karen Varley to represent the City on the Adair County Tourism Council, and they approved awarding 2018 tax increment financing certificates. Economic Development Director Kristen Renslow then presented the two proposals for the City’s comprehensive and strategic plan, from Bolton & Menk and the Region XII Council of Governments. Renslow recommended the Council go with Region XII, to which they approved. Additionally, the Council approved disposing of the property at 512 South Summit and gave their final payment of $175,088.09 to Grimes Asphalt and Paving for this year’s street improvements. The meeting concluded with a public forum, in which Renslow mentioned the City recently received a $5,000 grant for new public trash receptacles.
