The Perry High School Drama Department only recently wrapped up their fall play, “Robin Hood,” but they’re already gearing up for their upcoming spring musical.
The school typically does a musical every two years, having done the well-received “Peter Pan” in 2017. Before they can get to their 2019 show, however, they needed to reveal what the musical would be. Vocal Music Director Jenn Nelson had the idea of creating suspense for the selection, and decided to tease 12 possible shows by the trophy cases in the high school. Every few weeks, she would cross off one of the choices, posting it on Perry’s Vocal Music Facebook page, until finally only one remained.
After eliminating musicals such as “Annie,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Kiss Me Kate,” the last show standing was recently revealed to be “Seussical.” The play draws its inspiration from the many works of Dr. Seuss, and features characters such as Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, all the Whos in Whoville, and of course the Cat in the Hat. “Seussical” will be performed April 5th and 6th in the Perry Performing Arts Center.
