A special event is happening this coming Friday in Jefferson in recognition of an asset that turning a milestone birthday.
The Greene County Community Center is celebrating its 20th anniversary on Friday, November 16th, and there’s lots going on to lead up to the festivities, as well as lots of entertainment planned for that day. Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says anyone can take any of the classes offered at the community center for free during the week leading up to Friday’s event.
Then on Friday, family-friendly entertainment is planned for the entire afternoon and evening. It kicks-off with Art on the Fly for kindergarten through sixth graders painting different portraits on canvasses for $20 per participant from 1 to 2:30pm. Then at 3pm, there will be beach volleyball and an obstacle course in the gym, along with a picture presentation in the lobby. A variety of 30-minute exercise classes will take place starting at 4:30 with yoga, followed by Xtreme Fit, then step aerobics, along with Zumba and yoga again. All classes will be offered for free. Plus, a free-will donation meal will be served by the Jefferson Rotary Club from 5:30 to 7pm, with food donated from Hy-Vee and the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association. The event will wrap up with a free showing of “Mulan” sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, with the Jefferson Aktion Club providing free popcorn, from 7 to 9pm.
Lautner adds that the celebration continues throughout the weekend. “We plan to make that a free weekend for people to come into the community center and check it out. If you’ve never been a member before and you want to come in that will be a free weekend that you’ll be able to come in and mill around and see what’s going on.”
