A new organization recently donated funds to a good cause following an inaugural event in Jefferson last month.
The Amazing Race for Charity presented a check to this year’s selected non-profit organization of the Bringing Optimism and Opportunity to Students and Teachers (BOOST) for the Greene County School District of $1,755. Their first-ever event was held this past September and committee member Lisa Kuhl says it included 16 two-person teams that did 12 different challenges. She points out it was a rather cold day, and the teams hung tough, even when one of the challenges consisted of pouring water outside.
“One team member was blindfolded and had to go down and fill up a cup and come back and pour the water into a jug that’s on their team member’s head. And then the team member had to talk them back down to where the water was.”
Some of the other challenges included eating crickets or crackers and then having to whistle a song, and doing cheer routines at the Greene County Community Center. The winners were Emily and Maxwell Neese. Plans have already started, including selecting the next non-profit organization, to receive funds from next year’s Amazing Race for Charity event. BOOST’s second annual BASH event will take place March 30, 2019.
