The Jefferson Kiwanis Club held its annual Pancake and Silent Auction fundraiser this past Saturday at the Jefferson Elks Lodge.
President Tom Heater says they raised about $3,500 from their silent auction items and close to $6,000 total gross from the pancake breakfast. Heater gave his reaction to how well the event went.
“I think we’ve had a great crowd this morning. Before the first hour and a half was done, we’ve had about 130 people and it’s been steady ever since. So I think this is going to be one of our best years.”
Heater points out what Kiwanis typically does with the proceeds from their fundraiser.
“Our proceeds are all used by our national chapter for anything involving kids. So that’s what we try to really do our giving about is (with the) cub scouts, the boy scouts, the schools, just anything at all that involves the youth is what Kiwanis likes to try and use our funds for.”
The silent auction included few items, but had some bigger ticket items such as a donated adult tricycle and autographed photos with some of the head coaches of the sports programs with Iowa State University and the University of Iowa.
