Greene County’s high school football program had a turnaround 2018 season by going 8-1 in the regular season, qualifying for the Class 2A playoffs, and finishing the season with a record of eight wins and two losses following a first round playoff loss. This was after back-to-back 1-8 seasons in 2016 and ’17. The Rams are gathering accolades from the recently completed season, including All-District honors.

Greene County and Kuemper Catholic both went 4-1 in district play with OABCIG (Ida Grove) at 3-2. All three teams lost in last Friday’s first round of the playoffs. Atlantic and Red Oak each were 2-3 with Shenandoah 0-5 in district games.

Mitch Moore, head coach of the Rams, was named Head Coach of the Year in the district. Senior lineman Bryce Hoyle was named Co-Defensive MVP of the district, and the Rams had three of the 10 players designated as “Elite.” Hoyle was on that list, along with junior lineman Tyler Miller, and junior receiver Carter Morton. Joining that trio as first team all-district players were junior corner Nick Breon, senior running back Clint Dennhardt, and senior safety/punter Austin Delp.

Second team all-district players from Greene County are junior quarterback Brent Riley, junior running back Colby Kafer, and junior defensive back Will Hansen.

Rams on the honorable mention list are four seniors. Trey Hinote played receiver and defensive back, as did Lance Hughes. Brock Wuebker was a tackle on offense and end on defense, while Clay Smith was a middle linebacker.
