When a disaster hits Guthrie and Adair Counties the emergency management agency is now better equipped to respond and aid those affected.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf has moved offices from the Guthrie County Courthouse to the Guthrie County Health building located on State Street in Guthrie Center. Kempf shares the reason for the change, “One of the reasons that we looked at moving our physical location was we didn’t have a space that when we needed to run an emergency operations center for the counties, to where we could pull together and help find resources, provide public information things like that, that’s done at the emergency operations center. We didn’t have a home for that.”
In the past there was uncertainty of where emergency stakeholders should go, as Kempf says they had to use various spaces such as the Supervisors meeting room at the courthouse, and they had to bring trailers of equipment to other communities. With the new office the agency will have all the equipment ready so stakeholders can easily respond to disasters. Contact and mailing information for Kempf remains the same.
