The ACGC volleyball team will get their second chance to advance to a regional final tonight when they travel to Neola for a clash with Class 1A #7 Tri Center.
The Trojans come into this match winners of 13 of their last 14 matches. In those 13 victories they’ve dropped only five sets, all to the Treynor Cardinals. The 29-7 Trojans are 8th in the class in total kills with 1,049. As a team they’re 2nd only to Beckman Catholic in kills per set with a whopping 11.53.
Individually, senior Brooklyn Hundt leads the way for the team and the Western Iowa Conference in kills with 308, and blocks with 62, on the season. Classmate Olivia Maasen leads the conference in aces with 60 and fellow senior Lilly Dahir is tops in the conference in assists with 820.
The Chargers will have two statistical advantages over the Trojans: aces and blocks. The gold and black are 6th in Class 2A in total team aces with 244 and 8th in total blocks with 293. Senior Savana Fuller has contributed to the later greatly, as she’s 6th individually in total blocks with 103 and 5th in blocks per set with 1.24.
This will be the first meeting between the Trojans and the Chargers on the volleyball court. The Chargers advanced to the regional semifinals last year before being ousted by Council Bluffs St. Albert in three sets. The winner of tonight’s match will advance to the regional final on Tuesday in Earlham to face the winner of Woodward-Granger and BCLUW. First serve is set for around 7pm from the Tri-Center High School gymnasium in Neola.
