Among the many races in this year’s midterm election, one of the most tightly contested is for Dallas County Supervisor in District One.
The ballot contains incumbent Republican Brad Golightly of Perry, as well as Democratic challenger Breanna Morman of Dawson. Golightly has been a member of the Board of Supervisors since 2002, and during that time he has also operated his family farm near Van Meter. If re-elected, he says he would like to focus on keeping property taxes low in the face of a growing population and need for more County services. When asked why people should vote for him, Golightly emphasizes his experience in the office and the financial arena. “I bring to the table over 18 years of banking, insurance, financial management, and small business experience, in addition to my tenure as a Dallas County Supervisor. I work with the County management team in a conservative, common sense manner, to keep our County property tax levies low.”
On the other side of the ballot, Morman has spent the last seven years as the Mayor of Dawson, while also working for Heart of Iowa Community Services. If elected, she says she’d like to focus on improving roads throughout the County, and moving the Board from three to five members. Morman asks people to vote for her because she promises to listen to their concerns and always do her due diligence. “I do plan to be prepared and to do my homework for each meeting, to look (at) what’s going to be discussed on each agenda, and sort of figure out what I need to know going into that meeting. I want to work for the people of Dallas County and see their concerns be addressed, to continue making this County a great place to work and live.”
Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th, but people can vote early or absentee between now and then.
