Do you ever look at the older buildings in Stuart and wonder what stories they could tell?
History buffs will get to learn more about Stuart and its notable natives at the Stuart Revitalization Committee’s inaugural historical walk. There are seven stops on the tour beginning at Hotel Stuart and concluding at the Depot. Resident actors portraying historic Stuart figures will share stories of the community such as the construction and restoration of the All Saints Catholic Church, the still-operating 1910 organ at the First Congregational Church, and the robbery of the First National Bank by Bonnie and Clyde.
Russ Shaw with the Stuart Revitalization Committee says they are hosting this event to expose more people to the downtown area, “We just thought that it would be a good opportunity to try something new and then to also bring attention to a lot of the historical sites in downtown Stuart. I mean I do think it will be a great experience for those that aren’t familiar with some of the architectural significance of the buildings that we have in Stuart, so we look forward to seeing everybody there.”
A bus will be available for those who aren’t able to walk for the tour. Refreshments will be provided including chili, wine, cheese and crackers, cider, and coffee. The event begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hotel Stuart and lasts until 8 p.m. A freewill donation is accepted.
