Relay for Life of Guthrie County is getting a head start on fundraising for the 2019 year with their inaugural garage sale event starting tomorrow.
Relay for Life teams and residents are taking part in the garage sale taking place this Friday and Saturday at the Guthrie Activity Center. This event is one example of the year-round fundraising that Relay for Life of Guthrie County does, which earned them a ninth place ranking per capita nationally this year, according to Kim Durst with the American Cancer Society, “You know there’s just many, many ways to fundraise and make it fun for people get people engaged and it’s not breaking people’s pocketbooks. So it’s all about doing it throughout the year and reaching out to different people and different ages, things like that.”
Relay for Life of Guthrie County raised $65,500 last year for cancer research. The garage sale fundraiser takes place from 4-8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Meals will also be served to the public throughout the sale. Those interested in donating items can contact Vicki Crannell at 641-757-1199.
