The Guthrie Center City Council met Monday night in regular session.
The meeting began with the Council approving Simmering-Cory Inc. as per the City Utility Board’s recommendation to write the Community Development Block Grant for the City’s clear well project. Next, Midway Motel owner Ski Ciesielski presented his request for the City’s backing on an application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Community Catalyst Building Remediation grant program. Ciesielski is applying for $100,000 in funding from the state program to replace the motel’s roof, facade and electricity, and remodel the rooms that haven’t yet been redone. The Council did not hear any other presentations, and they approved giving Ciesielski $25,000 or payment-in-kind.
The Council then approved hiring Region XII Council of Governments to help facilitate a housing survey for rehabilitation in the northern part of the City. Finally, the meeting concluded with a discussion of the different funding options for a bathhouse project at the aquatic center. No action was taken, as the Council wished to hear what exact improvements the Parks & Rec Board desires, and the Board was not in attendance.
