The Perry Fire Department is bringing back their Haunted Barn this year, and it opens this weekend.
Fire Chief Chris Hinds says they’ve had a haunted attraction for around 35 years, and it’s moved around from place to place. This year it will once again be in the Perry Marketplace building at Caboose Park. The Haunted Barn will run this Friday and Saturday, October 19th and 20th, as well as the following weekend, the 26th and 27th, and it will be open one last time on Beggar’s Night, October 30th. It will begin at 7 p.m. each night, and costs $5 per person.
Hinds says it will be as scary as ever, but adds they are going back to their roots a bit. “For the last few years, we’ve had a lot of clowns and people like that in there, and kind of chasing people around. It’s been pretty scary for some people. We’re kind of going back to our old format of having cubicles, and we’re going to have people in each cubicle. So it’ll be a variety of different things. One cubicle may have some clowns in it, and in the next cubicle who knows what might be in there, or what monster might lurk around that next corner?”
All the proceeds raised from the Haunted Barn will go towards the Perry Firefighter’s Association and their purchase of a new battery-powered Jaws of Life. Hinds says the battery-powered machinery gives them more freedom when maneuvering with the equipment, with just as much power as the hydraulic-powered devices. Additionally, the Haunted Barn will be open one extra time this year, this Saturday from noon – 3 p.m. Cub Scout Pack 127 will operate a kid-friendly experience, with all the ticket sales going directly to them.
