The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with Mayor John Andorf reading a proclamation for Perry’s Academic, Cultural, and Enrichment Services (PACES) program, followed by PACES Director Mary Hillman talking in open forum about this week’s “Lights On After School” event. In old business, the Council approved three items related to the recent crack sealing project. The first was a change order for $10,916.42, which City Engineer Matt Ferrier said was a result of additional work being done because they had such a good price from the contractor. They also approved a pay request of $30,282.60 to Fahrner Asphalt Sealers, and the certificate of final completion for the project.
Other items approved in old business include: a pay request of $17,875.93 to Elder Corporation for the Willis Avenue bridge project; entering into a new supplemental agreement for five years with the Department of Transportation for the maintenance and repair of state roads in City limits; submitting a grant request through the Iowa Great Places project for work on the Frog Creek corridor; a lease agreement with Hometown Heritage for artwork in City Hall; and appointing Scott Finneseth to the Perry Economic Development Board and reappointing Terry Nielsen.
In new business, the Council accepted the resignation of John Palmer from the Historic Preservation Commission, though he will stay on as a non-voting associate member. They also approved an application for a state charitable gambling license. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss real estate transactions.
