Greene County hosts OABCIG (Ida Grove) at Linduska Field in Jefferson this Friday night in one of the biggest regular season football games here in years. Both teams are 7-1 overall and 3-1 in Class District 9, and both are coming off big road wins last week. The Rams won at Red Oak, 35-14, and the Falcons beat Kuemper Catholic in Carroll, 47-19. The Rams, Falcons, and Knights are tied for first place in the district heading into the final week of the regular season. A win for the Falcons means they win the district and go to the playoffs. The Knights need to win over 0-8 Shenandoah, and have Greene County beat OABCIG. If those two things happen, Kuemper Catholic would take the district crown.

The Rams are not guaranteed a playoff berth even if they end the regular season with a victory and 8-1 record, The only way Coach Mitch Moore’s team can win the district is to defeat OABCIG, and get an upset by Shenandoah vs. Kuemper Catholic. The Rams are hurt in the RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) by playing a soft schedule that has three teams that haven’t won a game, and OABCIG is the only Greene County opponent to have a guaranteed winning record heading into week nine. However, only two teams in 2A have better records than Greene County. The Rams also have a very good opponents opponents’ record. Your record, your opponents’ record, and the opponents’ opponents’ record are the three elements used in the RPI, used to determine playoff qualifiers that do not win district titles.
