The Perry High School Marching Band is down to three final performances for the 2018 season, and all three are in the next two days.
The “Blue Brigade” will perform tonight at halftime of the final home varsity football game of the year, and then tomorrow they will have performances at competitions both in the morning and evening. Perry will compete at the State Marching Band Festival at Waukee High School tomorrow, which starts at 8 a.m. The band will then head to Ankeny High School for the Mid-Iowa Marching Band Championship, which begins at 4 p.m.
Their show is called “The Forest Through the Trees,” and Band Director Brad Sparks says he’s excited to bring the full piece in front of an audience. He gives audiences a preview of what to expect. “It’s kind of an environmental thing. We come in, we try to put on a marching band show, and we have to harvest the forest in order to do so. The forest is depicted through some images that we carry out on the field in the form of big panels. And then also we have this big tree prop that we disassemble throughout the show. And then at the end… you know what? I’m not going to give away the ending, you’ll have to come see it if you want to see that!”
Tomorrow’s competitions are both open to the public, though there will be entrance fees at each. It costs $7 for adults and $3 for students to attend the State Festival in Waukee, while the Mid-Iowa Championship in Ankeny is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
