One of the only golf courses in the state of Iowa hosting a cross country race this week is the Lake Panorama Par 3 Golf Course in Panora. The annual site of the West Central Activities Conference meet will host yearly event despite much of Guthrie County receiving over two inches of rain since Monday. Panorama head cross country coach Greg Thompson joined the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Guthrie County PM Sports Page Monday to promote the conference cross country meet and shared information about the course. “It looks like we’ll probably be running an alternate course,” Thompson said, “Probably looking at running all nine holes of the (Lake Panorama) Par 3 golf course on the west side rather than running the first three holes and running out in the woods.”
Thompson added the woods get muddy and don’t get a lot of sunlight, and the alternate course was created four years ago in case of a rain event. Runners from AC-GC, Earlham, Interstate 35, Madrid, Ogden, Pleasantville, Van Meter, Woodward Academy, and Woodward-Granger will compete for in today’s West Central Activities Conference Cross Country Meet. The top 10 finishers in both the varsity boys and girls race will make up this year’s WCAC all-conference squad. The varsity races begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Lake Panorama Par 3 Golf Course.
