acgcThe ACGC football team continues to impress as for the second straight week they defeated their opponent with an 18-point winning margin. This win though was extra special as it was the final home game of the season, the Homecoming matchup, and their first win over the West Central Valley Wildcats in three tries. The Chargers claimed victory last night, 26-8.

After giving up a 75 yard touchdown pass on the third play of the game from Wildcat quarterback Carson Wadle to senior classmate Cole Arnburg, ACGC shut out West Central Valley’s offense. The Chargers took control, scoring 26 unanswered points. The offensive output for the gold and black began with a safety after a muffed punt by Wildcat senior Korbin Nourse late in the 1st quarter. The Chargers responded with a two yard rushing touchdown by senior Ben Kingery to tie the game at eight.

Junior quarterback Bryce Littler tallied two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to extend the lead by twelve at the halftime horn. There would be no scoring until the 4th quarter when freshman Gavin Cornelison scored from 22 yards out with 5:24 remaining to seal the deal. The 2nd half scoring was limited due to four turnovers and four consecutive possessions ending on downs. Each team had a fumble while Carson Wadle threw two interceptions, one each to Littler and senior Avery Wheatley.

Following the game, head coach Cody Matthewson described the importance of this win. “It’s more for the kids and the seniors to be able to win their last game at home and just to have that experience on Homecoming night. I know they’ve never had that experience before. Two home wins this year and the seniors being able to say they won their last game at home. So that’s huge for them.”

The Chargers improve to 3-4 (2-1) while the Wildcats fall to 1-6 (0-3). ACGC will make the short trip to Panorama next Friday for Guthrie County Showdown round two against the Panthers.
