The Perry varsity football team once again failed to enter the win column Friday night, this time falling to Carroll by a score of 27-14.
On the first drive of the game, the Tigers marched down the field in 10 plays, getting the scoring started on a 10-yard touchdown reception by Jang Jiaklow. The Blue Jays would hold Carroll scoreless the rest of the first, and then got even at the beginning of the second quarter. Following an interception by Byron Melendrez, Perry went on a 12-play drive that culminated in a 3-yard touchdown pass from Kaleb Olejniczak to Connor Kenyon. However, on the subsequent drive, the Tigers would take the lead again on a 1-yard touchdown run by Draven Williamson. Carroll would add a 29-yard field goal by Max Neu before halftime, and the Blue Jays went into the break down 17-7.
In the third quarter, the Tigers struck early once again, this time on a 24-yard touchdown catch by Jioklow on a drive that started deep in Perry territory following a big punt return. The score remained the same until Carroll scored on a 22-yard field goal by Neu late in the fourth quarter. The Blue Jays would take their next drive 75-yards in 11 plays, and managed to finish it off with a 6-yard touchdown catch by Ever Tobar. However, it was too little, too late, and the Tigers ran out the rest of the clock to come away with a 27-14 victory.
With the loss, Perry remains winless on the season, heading into next week’s home matchup against Boone with a record of 0-7. They hope to break their losing streak against the Toreadors, and you can hear all the action live from Dewey Field on AM 1310, FM 99.7 KDLS. Pregame starts at 7 p.m.
