The defending Class 1A champions and current top team in the state is the opponent this evening for the Panorama Panthers varsity football team. The Panthers will cross into Dallas County this evening for a Class 1A District 8 matchup versus the top-ranked Van Meter Bulldogs. The Bulldogs hold a 19-game winning streak dating back to the start of the 2017 season. Panorama is searching for their first win of the district season after narrow losses to Clarinda (28-27) and Mount Ayr (21-13) the previous two weeks. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Panorama head football coach Mike Kauzlarich during Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page. Kauzlarich is focusing on what his team can control. “Obviously, Van Meter’s a great team so we’re turning the focus on what we can do,” Kauzlarich said, “What do we need to improve on and a huge emphasis we talked about (Sunday was) building that depth. Starting to cycle (reserves) in where they’re going to fill in at.”

Tonight is the third straight Friday that Van Meter is lining up against a squad from Guthrie County. The Bulldogs topped the AC/GC Charger in Guthrie Center on September 21, 63-6. Last week saw Van Meter best the West Central Valley Wildcats, 35-14, in Stuart. The Bulldogs return home tonight to host the Panorama Panthers on the gridiron. The varsity game kicks off around 7 p.m. from Van Meter High School.
