The Perry Public Library will be facilitating two book club events this month, and the public is encouraged to take part in one or both of them.

On Tuesday, October 9th, starting at 7 p.m. at the Carnegie Library Museum, the Quarterly Classics Book Club will be meeting for the final time in 2018. The group is led by Media Librarian Jill Cook, and they will be discussing “Wives and Daughters,” by Elizabeth Gaskell. For those who may be looking for a more contemporary book discussion, the library will also be offering their Monthly Book Club meeting on Tuesday, October 16th. Library Director Mary Murphy will facilitate the discussion, which will be held at 1 p.m. in the Clarion Room at Perry City Hall. Murphy says they’re always looking for new members, though she warns that the conversation can often go on tangents. “We have wide-ranging discussions, and we kind of like circle back around to the book. More talking about society and what this book is talking about, or discussing the author’s point of view.”

The selected title for the Monthly Book Club in October is “The Life We Bury,” by Allen Eskens. Murphy adds, Eskens will actually be in Perry in November to take part in the Dallas County Reads One Book event, so she believes it will be fun to discuss one of his books before meeting him later on. Both book clubs are free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. There’s no registration required, and the books can be checked out at the library.
