Both high school volleyball teams from Greene County were in action last night. The Greene County Rams lost at Story City in three straight sets to Roland-Story, while the Paton-Churdan Rockets won at home in five sets vs. Coon Rapids-Bayard.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams lost 15-25, 11-25, 18-25, to fall to 2-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference matches and 6-16 overall. R-S improved to 18-4 on the season and 5-1 in league play. Brazilian foreign exchange student Luisa Slompo had seven kills for the Rams with four kills each from Harleigh Weir, Lily Muir, and Sophia Havens. Muir led in digs with eight and Brianna Osterson had four digs. Serving leaders for the Rams were Havens at 12 of 13, Osterson 10 of 11, and Kara Reed at seven of eight.
P-C’s victory put Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rockets at 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference, while CR-B fell to 14-10 on the season and 5-2 in the conference. The Rockets were down two sets to none and came back to win by scores of 13-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, and 15-11.
