The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The first part of the meeting was devoted to an update on the new law enforcement center. Jerry Purdy with Design Alliance said with the recent abundance of rain and storms, the construction calendar has been pushed back. At this point the scheduled completion date is now estimated to be October 2019. Most recently they had hoped to be done by next June or July. With dryer weather expected, Purdy says they’ll know more based on how quickly contractors are able to progress. The Board also approved the latest pay request from the Samuels Group, which included payments to 12 different contractors for around $1.7 million.
After that, the Board held a great deal of discussion regarding a pioneer cemetery in the Adel Township. The township trustees requested the Kinnick Cemetery be placed under the County’s jurisdiction for maintenance, which the Board agreed to. It was also emphasized that the cemetery in question was more of a burial site, and isn’t the final resting place of Nile Kinnick, who was lost at sea. The Board also at long last approved a 28E agreement with the West Des Moines Water Works for a regional water facility, though they will still need to agree on easements to make it official.
Other items approved included a property tax suspension for an Adel resident, and an amendment to the County financial policy. The Board also discussed but took no action on an update regarding the Metropolitan Planning Organization. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss the purchase of particular real estate.
