With the November general election coming up in just over a month, the Jefferson Rotary Club is hosting a pair of political forums with local candidates.
The first forum will take place this Thursday at 7pm at the Greene County Elementary cafeteria. It will feature the three candidates running for the Iowa House District 47 seat. Candidates include: Republican Phil Thompson of Jefferson, Democrat David Weaver of Rippey and Libertarian Patrick Shaw of Boone.
The second forum is slated for next Thursday, October 11th at 7pm, also at the elementary school cafeteria. That forum will highlight all of the county-level races. The event will start with the two uncontested races with Libertarian Thomas Laehn, running for county attorney and Democrat Marcia Tasler, running for county recorder. Then the two candidates for county treasurer will take the stage with Democrat Donna Lawson and Republican Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen. Next will be the two candidates for Greene County Supervisor District 2 with Republican Dawn Rudolph and Democrat Patti Naylor. The last speakers will be the candidates for Greene County Supervisor District 3 with Democrat Melissa Frederick and Republican Tom Contner.
Rotarian Rick Morain will be the moderator of both forums. The candidates will introduce themselves, field questions from Morain and then take questions from the audience. Both forums are free and open to the public.
