The Republican candidate running for Iowa House District 47 is wanting to tackle several topics at the statehouse to protect local interests.

One of Phil Thompson of Jefferson’s top priorities is lessening tax burdens on businesses to help stimulate local economies.

“Keeping the tax burdens down means those businesses do well, when they do well, their employees do well. And like we saw with Hamliton’ s (Redi-Mix) when we pass the big sweeping tax reform they pass that directly onto their employees. And that’s going to help them bring in more employees, those employees do better, they plant roots here, they raise families here. When we raise families here, we see more revenue coming in and more trade.”

He also believes that investing funds in alternative crops will help lead to advancing the agriculture industry and instilling more conservation practices.

“If we continue to invest and research and finding ways to make these cover crops profitable, and incentivizing that and incentivizing research, I think that could make the value of those crops go up a long ways too. And then you have a real economic incentive for cover crops and taking on the soil initiative that way.”
