Greene County will put its unbeaten record and high Class 2A ranking on the line on Friday night when Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams (5-0) meet unranked Kuemper Catholic (2-3) at newly refurbished Carroll Athletic Field. Greene County is 5-0 for the first time since 2007, when the Rams played as Jefferson-Scranton/Paton-Churdan. Only one time has a JSPC or Greene County varsity football team won more than five games in a season since ’07, and this years’ Rams could do that this week.
The Rams are ranked between sixth and eighth in 2A, depending on where you look. They’re one of just four unbeatens left among the 54 teams in that class. Greene County is fourth in the 2A RPI, which considers your record, your opponents’ record, and your opponents’ opponents’ record. The RPI will be used to determine playoff qualifiers that aren’t district champions. Greene County’s five opponents to date have a combined record of just four wins and 21 losses. The opponents’ opponents’ record is quite strong, however.
The game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 6 p.m. Friday and kickoff at 7 p.m.
