A warm and windy Thursday greeted runners at the Roland-Story Norsemen Cross-Country Invitational in Story City at the River Bend Golf Course. Greene County was eighth among 14 girls’ teams and fourteenth among 16 boys’ squads.
Luis Velasco was the highest finishing runner for the Greene County boys with a 49th place finish in 20:08 for the five kilometers (3.1 miles). Jack Bryson was 51st in 20:09, followed by Connor Brus, 53rd in 20:10, Logan Woodruff, 68th in 20:54, and Jayden Carstensen, 94th in 22:34.
Leading the Greene County girls was Conner Allender with a 22nd place finish in 24:14. Kassie Lamoureux was 24th in 24:38, followed by Makala Kafer, 41st in 25:44, Ashlee Harmeyer, 50th in 26:16, and Izzy Bravard, 60th in 27:08.
Madrid was the boys’ team champion with 29 points, far ahead of runner-up South Hamilton (Jewell) with 79. R-S had 99 points, followed by Bondurant-Farrar 116, Dike-New Hartford 153, Saydel (Des Moines) 214, Ogden 224, Woodward Academy 228, Webster City 230, Woodward-Granger 268, Nevada 280, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) 297, Southeast Valley (Cowrie) 312, Greene County 315, Colo-NESCO 466, Pleasantville 476.
D-NH won the girls crown with 49 points and Nevada was second with 59. B-F had 114, with 134 by Madrid, 137 from R-S, SH 173, SEV 182, Greene County 197, Pleasantville 205, W-G 228, WC 278, Ogden 288, C-N 407, W’ward Academy 440.
