Last October, the Panorama Panther varsity football team suffered a 21 point loss to district foe Manson Northwest-Webster, 28-7. Almost 11 months later, the Panthers earned some payback for last year’s setback with a 53-8 victory of the Cougars Friday night in Panora. Panorama was hitting on all cylinders in their second game this fall, holding Manson-Northwest Webster to 25 yards of total offense while producing 553 yards themselves. Four Panthers rushed the ball for over 50 yards and one touchdown led by junior quarterback Luke South with 148 yards and two scores. Senior Trey Cobb ran the ball 11 times for 69 yards and a score, senior Spencer Hunt tallied five carries for 68 yards and a touchdown, and sophomore Alejandro Mendez ran the ball five times for 57 yards and found the end zone once.

The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Panorama head football coach Mike Kauzlarich on Saturday morning and he admitted last years result against the Cougars was a concern of his last week. “We talked about it as coaches,” Kauzlarich said, “(How) are our kids going to approach this week having lost to Manson (NW-Webster) by 21 points? Sometimes it hard to get that monkey off your back. I think our kids did a great job of staying in tune with the game plan and fighting our way through.”

Panorama enters week three of the high school football season with a 2-0 record. This Friday’s opponent is the Interstate 35 Roadrunners. The Roadrunners are also 2-0 this fall with victories against Central Decatur (26-12) and Mount Ayr (28-13). Hear an interview with Kauzlarich on the next Wahl McAtee Tire & Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page, tonight at 6 p.m. on True Country K 107.9.
