Dallas Supervisors 8-7

Homecare Services of Dallas County has been struggling to make ends meet this past year, largely due to funding changes at the State level. Fortunately for them, they were recently approved for additional funding by the Dallas County Supervisors.

Homecare Services representatives presented their case to the Board, stating they have 36 individuals throughout the County that need their assistance. They only had funding to take care of 18 of those people, so the other half was left high and dry and forced to start considering assisted living facilities. The Board was sympathetic to their plight and approved their request for $35,000. The funds will be paid from the Supervisors’ special projects account.

Though the funding request was approved, Supervisor Mark Hanson emphasized that there needs to be a bigger discussion had, in order to make sure Homecare Services has the funding they need moving forward. The Homecare representatives said they are seeking outside sources, though many of the grant programs, such as the United Way, are highly competitive and involve large amounts of red tape and paperwork. However, they promised the Board they are working to remedy the issue.
