Volleyball fans flooded into Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools Thursday evening for the annual ADM Volleyball Invite. The six-team field played a round robin schedule against one another and featured squads from ADM, Gilbert, Nevada, Norwalk, Perry, and Woodward-Granger. ADM won three of their five matches, placing third in the final standings. ADM head volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott came into the tournament not sure how her young squad would fare. “I knew all these games would be tough because we’re all about the same caliber of teams,” Scott said, “We played a lot of three (set) matches so obviously we’re in every (contest) and we just got to get better.”
Four of ADM’s five matches went to a third game with the Tigers splitting those results. The Tigers opened the night falling to Nevada (14-21, 21-17, 6-15). ADM rattled off three straight victories over Woodward-Granger (21-19, 11-21, 15-13), Perry (21-6, 21-13) and Gilbert (21-11, 10-21, 15-9). They lost in the tournament finale against Norwalk (20-22, 21-19, 11-15). The Nevada Cubs are the 2018 ADM Volleyball Invite champions after winning all five of their matches. After the night, ADM’s overall record sits at 6-6. The Tigers opens their Raccoon River Conference schedule in Adel Tuesday against the Perry Jayettes.
