Plans are quickly coming together for the Greene County Chamber and Tourism annual golf outing.
Chamber Interim Director Michael Reese says the golf outing will be held on Friday, September 7th at the Jefferson Municipal Golf Course as a charity event to help raise money for the Shahan family. We’ve previously reported that four-year-old Avril has leukemia and she is raising money to purchase specialized jerseys for medical personnel to administer chemotherapy to other kids with cancer.
“They’re delivering them to hospitals where they are treating kids with cancer. So the beneficiaries of this charity golf outing ultimately will be like Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, U of I Hospitals and then the Mayo Clinic as well.”
With the event being the day before the Iowa-Iowa State football game, Reese points out that they have also been in contact with past players and coaches from Iowa State University and the University of Iowa to turn the golf outing into a Celebrity/Amatuer event. While those plans have yet to be finalized, one big country music name has committed.
“We’re proud to announce that Jason Brown will be in attendance. So he will be playing golf. We’re still working out the details with his people as far as how much he may perform, so stay tuned for that.”
To register a team of four people, the cost is $200, with an additional $50 fee to rent a golf cart. Plus there are opportunities for businesses and organizations to be sponsors.
