Dallas County Conservation has a long history of educational programs involving animal skulls, but coming up they will have one unlike any they’ve had before.
On Sunday, September 9th, “Critter” Cindy Blobaum will be hosting a skull painting event from 2-3 p.m. at the Forest Park Museum and Arboretum. Conservation Outreach Coordinator Ken Keffer says the idea for the program came from a popular Latino holiday in October. “This is going to take a little twist, where it’s going to be to help celebrate the ‘Day of the Dead,’ (Dia De Muertos) the big Mexican celebration. And so we’ll be painting the skulls. We’re going to have some raccoon skulls, probably some deer skulls to choose from, perhaps a beaver, I’m not sure. But then (for) the Day of the Dead celebration, we’ll do this big skull painting in September, and we’ll do a follow-up event in October as well. So (it) should be great!”
There is no cost to participate, but space is limited so pre-registration is required. To reserve your spot, stop in or call Forest Park at 515-465-3577.
