The girls’ high school swimming season at Boone High School began on Tuesday with the Toreadors winning 135-51 in Boone over Grinnell. Four Greene County High School students swim for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement and all contributed to the victory.
Boone won the 400 freestyle relay with three of the four legs from Greene County students Megan Doran, Ellie Madson, and Julia Saul. Doran was on the first place 200 medley relay and Madson won the 200 individual medley and was on the first place 200 freestyle relay. Saul was second in the 200 freestyle race, with Madson placing second in the 100 freestyle, and Saul and Sophia Ausberger were both members of the second place 200 freestyle relay. Ausberger was third in the 100 breaststroke and Doran was third in the 50 freestyle. Fourth place finishes included Doran in the 100 butterfly and Saul in the 100 freestyle.
Coach Chris Mann said the girls went out and competed with a poise and maturity he hasn’t necessarily seen in the past. “I was really impressed with our sophomore class especially swimming well.”
Boone’s next competition is Saturday, Sept. 1 at Muscatine.
