Hispanics United for Perry

As most people know, the annual Perry Latino Festival has been postponed indefinitely, but people will still be gathering in downtown Perry today.

Hispanics United for Perry (HUP) says it was a difficult decision to make, but they felt it was for the best given the current climate in the state following the death of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts. However, in a show of solidarity, several Perry residents have banded together and will be hosting a Unity Rally today to show support for the City’s large Latino population. Organizers of the event felt it was disappointing that people didn’t feel comfortable celebrating an event that’s so important to them, so they want to show those people that they have the support of the community.

The Unity Rally will be held today from noon to 1 p.m. on 2nd Street in downtown Perry, and people are asked to bring their messages of acceptance and peace. To learn more, click the link below.
