This evening, the Perry Police Department is conducting their second traffic safety program this week, after they found success with a similar program on Tuesday.

On August 21st, officers were dispatched around the City from noon until 3 p.m. to crack down on distracted driving. During that time, they stopped 13 drivers for texting and seatbelt violations, issuing seven warnings and six citations. Today, the Perry Police Department will be joining a combined effort that also includes the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Woodward Police Department, and Iowa State Patrol to identify impaired drivers along Highway 141. The project will encompass the entirety of the highway located in Dallas County.

Today’s program, as well as Tuesday’s, are part of Iowa’s Special Traffic Enforcement Program, and are funded by a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
