It was arguably the most successful first day of school in Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School athletics history. The Charger volleyball team continued their impressive season opening weeks with a sweep of the Van Meter Bulldogs last night in West Central Activities Conference play. The gold and black took their first win against Van Meter in program history 26-24, 25-17, 25-20.
Freshman Chloe Largent led the way in kills once again with 12. The 6’-1” Largent notched 15 in Tuesday’s win over West Central Valley. Senior Savana Fuller led the way in blocks with four while classmate Genevieve Hoover and junior Olivia Laabs recorded the most digs with 13 each. Senior Jadeyn Carrick also had the most aces with three.
The first set was tight throughout, but the foot of sophomore Audrey Stowe proved to be the difference. A ball deflected in that fashion led to the eventual tap-kill by Carrick for the first set victory. The next two sets were close early on, but ACGC pulled away in each to go 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in the WCAC.
This is the second straight year the Chargers have won their conference home opener and the first time they’ve started a season at 2-0. The Chargers will head to Anita on Tuesday to take part in a quadrangular at CAM. The other two schools in the quadrangular are Atlantic and East Union.
