The ACGC volleyball team served up their season opener last night in Stuart against the West Central Valley Wildcats. The Chargers continued their dominance in the series, sweeping the Wildcats 25-20, 25-16, 25-17.
The gold and black never trailed in the match, though the Wildcats made it close in the first two sets. WCV rallied in the late stages of the first set to push the Chargers’ lead to four, but ACGC sophomore Audrey Stowe nailed an ace to get the 25th point and claim the first set. The Chargers used two 6-0 runs to take the second set and a 9-0 run to open the third. The Wildcats pulled to within seven late, but it wasn’t enough to halt the Chargers from opening the season with a win.
Freshman Chloe Largent led the Chargers with seven kills, while senior Jadeyn Carrick notched three kills, two blocks, and two aces. Wildcat junior Jena Merical led WCV with six kills, six digs, and five total blocks in the loss. ACGC gets the win, but they may have lost sophomore Kylie Young for an extended period of time as she sustained a right knee injury in the first set that sidelined her for the rest of the game.
The Chargers are now 3-0 all time against the Wildcats. Both teams will have a quick turnaround as ACGC hosts Van Meter in their home opener and West Central Valley heads to Woodward-Granger.
