Dallas Supervisors 8-7

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

Much of the meeting was devoted to County building projects, including the new law enforcement center, and the courthouse departmental reorganization. Sheriff Chad Leonard presented a proposal for an expansion for the jail offices, that would require an additional $238,925.02 for the project. Since the contingency log had over $900,000 still in it, the Board approved the change orders. As for the courthouse space issues, Jerry Purdy from Design Alliance provided updated schematics for the second floor, which would house Juvenile Court Services, the Clerk of Court, and a single, large courtroom. He also went over the latest version of the Department of Motor Vehicles offices on the first floor. No action was taken, but Purdy was directed to speak with Courts representatives to get their approval.

Also during the meeting, there were two public hearings, the first regarding easements between the County and City of Waukee for the Raccoon River Valley Trail through the Stratford Crossing development. Following the hearing, the Board approved the six easements presented. The second hearing was for the second reading of amendments to the flood plain ordinance. No one spoke against it, so the Board approved the second and third readings, making the ordinance official.

The Board also tabled a decision on an agreement with CGI Communications for a County promotional videos project, and discussed but took no action on a funding request from Homecare Services. Finally, they accepted a bid of $90,435 from Grimes Asphalt for the Treasurer’s Office parking lot project, which has a late start date of September 27th and is expected to take 15 working days. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss pending litigation.
