Now that the Iowa State Fair has wrapped up, there have been plenty of results for Greene County area participants.
Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms says there were 25 blue ribbons awarded for 4-H static exhibits and 4-H’er Grace Hardaway won a $500 scholarship for her photography exhibit. Arthur Bardole earned two Seal of Excellence awards for his working exhibit and extemporaneous speech, while Katrina and Natalie Heupel also earned a Seal of Excellence for their working exhibit in communications. She was happy with how the communication exhibits went at the state fair
“So we had a great fair with our communication exhibits. We were really excited to be able to have participants down at the state fair. They had a great time. I got to go down and see a few of them and watch them present. And it’s a great way to showcase Greene County.”
FFA’er Kyle Hughes was crowned champion halter gelding and reserve champion berkshire hog. FFA’er Bailey Godwin was champion pony western pleasure and champion pony breeds.
Next the Frederick Family Farm with Bill and Melissa, along with Al and Ann Frederick were recognized with the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award. The award is for farmers that voluntarily improve or protect the environment and natural resources by taking steps in their farming operations to serve as leaders of environmental stewardship by utilizing techniques and best management practices.
Finally, Jefferson resident Marianne Carlson continued to impress judges with her food entries. Carlson placed first in the Delicious and Gluten Free Dessert contest, was the overall winner and earned $200 in the Tribute to Bessie Chicken and Noodles contest. She also won the My Favorite Meatloaf competition and earned a $100 gift card, and she won the Whole Grain Breads with Red Star Platinum contest and took home $75.
