Two cases against two Panora men ended differently recently in separate incidents.
According to court documents, 62-year-old Jeffery Ray Peer was sentenced to ten years in prison for second degree robbery, a Class C Felony. As part of his guilty plea, a fine of $1,000, along with one traffic violation each for driving without a license and operating a non-registered vehicle, were dismissed. Peer robbed the Great Western Bank in Sully on June 13th.
Another Panora man also recently had his charges dismissed to allow a federal investigation to take precedence. According to the Guthrie County Attorney’s Office, 33-year-old Jesse Gilliam had several charges dismissed in connection with a string of car burglaries on May 22nd. The dismissed charges include: four counts of 3rd degree burglary, all Class D Felonies; possession of weapons by a felon, a Class D Felony; and third degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Guthrie County Assistant Attorney Tim Benton tells Raccoon Valley Radio that, while he cannot disclose the majority of the details in relation to the federal investigation, he says the incidents warranting the investigation occurred in Guthrie County. As part of the federal agreement, Gilliam’s probation from a sentencing in connection with a string of burglaries in 2017 was revoked.
