Work continues to move quickly on the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center, and it’s now expected to be completed less than a year from now.
Construction Managers the Samuels Group gave an update to the Board of Supervisors recently, and stated construction is on schedule to be completed by mid to late July of 2019. Sheriff Chad Leonard reported that he’s even heard June of next year is a possibility for completion of the facility. Regardless, it’s clear the project is ahead of schedule, as well as still being well under budget. The Samuels Group reported there was still over $950,000 in the contingency funds, which started at just over $1.1 million. Those funds are used to cover any unforeseen complications or change orders.
In addition to the update on the construction progress, the Samuels Group also presented the sixth pay application, which included requests from eight different contractors for a total of $622,823.66. One of the pay requests was from McAninch Corporation for the site preparation, which has now been completed, and the Board approved the release of retainage for the contractor. See below to view the payments made in the most recent pay application.
Meanwhile, Leonard says he’s had meetings every week to keep himself informed of the construction progress, and the hope is to have a roof over much of the facility soon. “Walls are going vertical now. The administration side of the Sheriff’s Office, if you were to drive by on Highway 6, looks fantastic. I mean, they’re doing a really good job of getting the walls up, and their goal is to get it at least sealed up so they can work on the interior this winter. So if they keep going like they are now, I think you’ll see that happen.”
One last thing discussed during the recent update was the decommissioning of the Ortonville Lagoon, as the City of Adel is in the process of bringing sewer service to the area. That part of the project is being coordinated by McClure Engineering, and they told the Board the sewer project is on schedule to be completed around the same time as the facility. However, if it’s not, the Board was assured the lagoon will be able to handle the sewer needs of the new law enforcement center until the City’s project is wrapped up.
