A week from today the Friday night lights resume as the ACGC Chargers will host the IKM-Manning Wolves in a non-district contest from Guthrie Center. Though the Chargers have returned several key players from a season ago, one building block with some openings is at the line of scrimmage. The Chargers lost three key seniors on the line last year to graduation in Collin Stowe, Nate Schiller, and Sam Fuller.
Assistant Coach Mike Underwood says there’s a lot of opportunity for athletes to step up and fill those gaps. “It’s going to be a little bit different expectations, I guess is probably the right word, that we’ll have for our line and I think they’re responding well to those expectations. So it’s really anybody’s ballgame right now as far as those starting five are concerned.”
Fortunately for the Chargers they do have a likely candidate for All-District returning at the line in junior Quynton Younker. Underwood comments on Younker’s improvements during the offseason. “He has become quicker. He’s got excellent footwork as you well know whether it be on the basketball floor or out here on the football field. I think more importantly he’s kind of grasping that leadership role.”
The Chargers will get in some game reps tonight in their Gatorade scrimmage from Guthrie Center. This will be an in-house scrimmage and admission is a sports drink. The scrimmage begins at 7pm from Jarman Field.
