acgcLast year the ACGC boys cross country team made its first trip to the State Meet in just their second season. Head Coach Colin Shawgo and the rest of the team are eager to get back again. Fortunately for the Chargers they have two seniors to help lead the way, including last year’s All-State runner, Noah Nelsen.

Shawgo talks about the leadership Nelsen and classmate Clay Billheimer have shown during the summer. “Noah was at almost all of our summer running and he is a tremendous leader. He has been a great leader for the past 2-3 years. Even as an underclassman, he really has been helping our team to progress and keeping everybody’s spirit up and working hard. Clay Billheimer is set up for a fantastic senior season. He had to deal with some hip issues last year but it sounds like we’re getting those hip issues remedied and he is ready to go out and have an all-star season.”

Both the girls and the boys open the season on August 23rd at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames. Athletes from several schools will be competing at that meet, including Greene County and Panorama.
