Monday marked the official start of Fall sports practices for Greene County High School athletes, as well as others around the state. The Fall of 2017 was not especially plentiful of victories for the Rams, but there’s hope for increases in the win total this year.

The one exception was girls’ cross-country where the Rams were in the upper half of their meets and on occasion finished near the top. They were fifth in the Lake City Class 2A Regional Meet and graduated senior Haley Hall qualified for the State Meet. The boys’ cross-country team was at or near the bottom of their meets in 2017. Jeff Lamoureux enters his second season heading both programs.

The Greene County volleyball program had a change at the top. Longtime teacher/coach Donna Carhill retired at the end of the last school year, and former assistant coach Chris Heisterkamp starts her first season heading the Greene County program. The Rams were 7-27 a season ago.

Football head coach Mitch Moore enters season number two with the Rams. Greene County has been 1-8 each of the past two seasons, but a drop in class size from 3A to 2A, as well as a number of returning players has enthusiasm high in the Rams’ camp.

A handful of girls are expected to swim for Boone this season under an athletic sharing agreement.
